Geomembranes

Geomembranes are geosynthetic products formed into thin, continuous and flexible sheets, used primarily as an impervious barrier for water or other fluids in environmental or civil engineering projects. These can be manufactured from different kinds of polymeric materials. The most common of these are:

High density and low linear density polyethylene (HDPE, LLDPE) geomembranes, which have a very high physical and chemical resistance, as well as high resistance to degradation due to ultraviolet exposure. This is the most commonly utilized type of geomembrane due to its price and versatility.

Polypropylene (PP) geomembranes, which have a very high chemical and thermal resistance. These are commonly utilized in roof linings, reservoirs for high temperature liquids, and others.

Reinforced geomembranes of different kinds of polymeric materials, which consist of a polymeric grid incorporated into the geomembrane to provide physical reinforcement.

Installation of geomembranes is as important as the material itself. Seams between geomembrane sheets are welded with fusion or extrusion methods, and quality assurance procedures have to be done in order to guarantee impermeability of the installed area.

At Omali S.A. we maintain an ample stock of geomembranes with a broad range of thicknesses and characteristics for different job applications. In addition, we provide geomembrane installation services with specialized equipment and personnel.

The range of applications is very great and in addition to the environmental area, applications are rapidly growing in mining, geotechnical, hydraulic and civil engineering.
