Mining Leach Pads and Solution Ponds
Today’s mining practices require optimal performance from containment lining systems which can be achieved through the utilization of geomembranes.
The essential leach pad component is the primary geomembrane liner which performs a double purpose, to collect valuable leachates and to protect groundwater resources from contamination.
After collecting leachates, this solution must be contained in a pond typically exposed to the elements and constant use. These ponds are lined with geomembranes to assure complete capture of solution.
To further prevent the loss of this valuable solution and soil contamination, these ponds are frequently lined with a secondary geomembrane layer in combination of geocomposites beneath the primary containment liner to create a permanent leak detection system.
Geomembranes are used extensively in these applications due to their proven performance as effective and economical liners, providing many benefits such as durability in exposed conditions, resistance to a broad range of chemical substances, and rapid installation.
