Sub-drainage

In sub drainage applications, a non woven geotextile acts as a filter, letting water pass through it and retaining fine soil particles.

To construct a drainage trench, the gravel placed in the trench has to be encapsulated with a non woven geotextile, in order for the water entering the drainage trench to be free of soil particles, and thus preventing the constant erosion of the surrounding soil.

The type of non woven geotextile to be selected will depend on the particle size of the surrounding soil, as well as the amount of water flow which is required to pass through it. Light weight geotextiles are commonly used for these applications.
